Michael Radvansky, CMI
President | CEO
Mike is a Principal at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions. His team of tax professionals is responsible for the sales, use, payroll and excise tax audit defense for a Fortune 100 company. The team provides comprehensive audit support from audit notification to audit resolution, including controversy and litigation assistance. In addition to audit expertise, the Team provides tax process simplification, reverse tax audits, Effective Tax Rate (Single Rate) use tax evaluation and implementation, offer in compromise assistance and additional indirect tax consulting services that lead to process improvements, cost avoidance and tax recovery.
Prior to co-founding Michael James Sales Tax Solutions, Mike worked for 20 years at General Electric Company’s Corporate Sales, Use & Excise Tax Department where he held numerous management, leadership and individual contributor positions, supporting GE’s Energy, Healthcare, Aviation, Water, Plastics, Transportation, Industrial and Retail Businesses. During his tenure he focused on issues that include audit defense, transaction tax systems, effective tax rate implementations, tax planning, contract and purchase reviews, business and occupation taxes, real and personal property tax, due diligence and integration of mergers, acquisitions, and divestures along with advice to improve business processes such as tax engine applications and compliance routines.
Mike received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Maryland. He is a certified member (CMI) of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) and has spoken at various IPT symposia. Mike was a participant on the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services Managed Compliance Task Force, resulting in initiating legislation for their Managed Compliance Program.
Beth Wortkotter, CMI
Beth is a Manager at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions. She is responsible for the sales and use tax audit management for clients in a variety of industries. She has over 20 years professional experience specializing in multi-state sales and use tax services. Her experience includes managing audits in the leasing, financial services, manufacturing, retail, facilities management, and healthcare industries. She specializes in sales/use tax diagnostic analysis, business process reviews, audit representation, nexus studies, voluntary disclosure agreements, controllership and sales/use tax research. Beth’s expertise includes the fundamentals of sales &use tax law and the development of tax matrices designed to support clients’ business process requirements.
Prior to joining Michael James Sales Tax Solutions, Beth worked primarily for General Electric Company’s Corporate Sales, Use & Excise Tax Department. Beth holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of South Florida. She is a certified member (CMI) of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT).
Jim Hoagland, JD
Jim is a Senior Associate at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions. Jim began his SALT career as a staff attorney in the Missouri Department of Revenue’s General Counsel’s office. This experience provided valuable insight into the challenges and priorities present within most all taxing authorities. Jim continued his focus on state and local tax while working for Emerson Electric, advising its manufacturing and retail divisions in sales and use tax audits as well as new initiatives. Following Emerson, Jim worked 11 years as a member General Electric Company’s Corporate Sales, Use & Excise Tax Team supporting GE’s financial services business. In that role, he represented GE Capital in sales and use tax audits, provided transaction review and advice, and was a key member of the team that designed, built and maintained GE Capital’s One Source (Sabrix) implementation. Now as a member of the Michael James Sales Tax Solutions team, Jim continues his commitment to provide unique and valuable SALT solutions for MJST clients.
Jim received his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Graceland University, his J.D. from University of Louisville/Louis D Brandeis School of Law and his Masters of Laws from the University of Missouri- Kansas City. Jim has been a speaker at numerous conferences regarding the taxation of lease transactions and is licensed in the State of Missouri.
Alicia is a Senior Associate at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions. She specializes in sales, use and excise tax audits and appeals in addition to other tax consulting services. Prior to joining the Michael James, Alicia worked for General Electric Company’s Corporate Sales, Use & Excise Tax Department where she became a sales & use tax audit expert, specializing in industrial manufacturing, retail sales and healthcare industries. Her professional experience includes process improvement projects related to the sales and use tax audit and tax reporting processes. Alicia also spent 10 years working for her family business, which gives her insight into the tax issues that affect small businesses.
Alicia received her Bachelor’s in Accounting & Taxation and a Master’s in Taxation from Florida Gulf Coast University. She is a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and has spoken at an AICPA conference.
John Adejunmobi, CMI
John is a Senior Associate at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions focusing on multi-state sales & use tax audit defense and controversy. John has over 20 years’ experience working with US Multinationals Corporation and state government. He has extensive experience managing multi-state sales and use tax audits in the leasing, manufacturing, retail, banking, ecommerce and healthcare industries. Prior to joining Michael James Tax Solutions, he spent 14 years working with General Electric Company providing audit defense and consultation supporting the financials services, energy and healthcare businesses. He also worked several years with state government, as a tax auditor and held senior tax analyst positions with leasing and banking corporations.
John graduated with an MBA in accounting and a Masters in Economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a certified member (CMI) of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT).
Adam Smalley is a Senior Associate at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions. He specializes in sales and use tax audit management, tax return compliance, client implementations, and indirect tax other consulting services. In his 9 years of experience, he has serviced clients in the automotive, financial services, retail, and manufacturing industries. Prior to joining Michael James, Adam was an Indirect Tax Manager at Tax Trilogy responsible for identifying and driving customer efficiencies to generate bottom-line savings through process improvements and recovery projects. Adam’s analytical approach and knowledge of front-end and back-end sales and use tax processes allows him to provide comprehensive and valued services to MJST clients.
Adam received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing from Michigan State University. He is a member of the Institute of Professionals in Taxation (IPT) and has been published in the IPT Monthly Tax Report.
Director of Operations | Tax Associate
Melanie joined Michael James Sales Tax Solutions in 2013 as the Tax Associate/Office Manager. She is responsible for all the daily operations of the business, including payroll, bookkeeping, insurance, human resources, event planning and project budgeting. She provides the skill and detail oriented focus that keeps our company moving forward from day to day, and also provides the team with audit support when needed. Melanie’s organizational skills, tenacity, and interpersonal skills make her a valuable asset to our team.
Melanie received her Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing from Kennesaw State University and her Associates in Management at Darton College. She has also received certifications in QuickBooks Intermediate and WordPress Websites Introduction from the College of Continuing and Professional Education at Kennesaw State University.
Robert is a Tax Associate at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions. He specializes in sales and use tax audit
management in multistate jurisdictions. His exceptional problem solving skills enable him to perform
statistical methodologies associated with tax compliance procedures to mitigate clients’ exposure to risk.
Prior to joining Michael James Sales Tax Solutions, Robert earned his Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. He is also a member of the Institute of Professionals in Taxation.
Sarah Radvansky, PMP
Director – Tax Automation
Sarah is a Director at Michael James Sales Tax Solutions. She is responsible for tax automation and
simplification for clients in a variety of industries. She has over 20 years of professional experience with a
focus on indirect tax. Her experience includes leading globally disbursed teams deploying ONESOURCE Indirect Tax software on both SAP and Oracle. She has also managed teams charged with implementing tax compliance requirements and solutions on custom platforms in several regions across the world. Sarah brings a diverse cross functional tax expertise to the team along with change & project management, process improvement, and tax technology implementations.
Prior to joining Michael James Sales Tax Solutions, Sarah worked for General Electric Company’s Corporate Tax IT Department. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Florida Gulf Coast University. She is Green Belt certified and is also a member of the Project Management Institute.
